2. The Shires EquiKind 4 Ring Jointed Dutch Gag has an apple flavoured mouthpiece which makes the bit more palatable and therefore more easily accepted.
3. The mouthpiece is similar to rubber with the benefit of being lighter and more flexible making it ideal for sensitive horses.
4. This lever bit has two smaller rings below the main ring to allow the amount of leverage to be adjusted as the reins are moved down or up the rings.
5. The lowest ring from the mouthpiece offers the highest severity with pressure applied through the bridle to the poll and mouth with a downward action encouraging the horse to lower its head and neck.
6. The 5″ and below sizes have smaller rings to ensure the bit remains in proportion with the smaller head.
   The cheeks of the 5″ and below bits are 145cm (5.75″), the 5.5″ and bigger have cheeks of 180mm (7″).
